“Terminator” restores tourism dollars
California Governor Arnold Schwazenegger signed into law a bill that restores the $7.3 million in public marketing funds to promote the state as a travel destination.
“Tourism is big business in California,” said Sunne Wright McPeak, chair of the California Travel and Tourism Commission (CTTC).
For the past two years, no state funds have been allocated to promote state tourism. The state’s 5,500 assessed businesses have been the sole supporters of California’s tourism marketing.
The state now ranks 30th in the US for state tourism office budgets.
Travel and tourism expenditures in California total $82.5 billion, according to the CTTC.
