Thai airlines seek jet fuel tax cut

Thursday, 19 Mar, 2026 0

Thailand’s airline industry is asking the government a temporary reprieve on jet fuel costs.

The Airlines Association of Thailand wants a temporary reduction in jet fuel excise tax for domestic flights.

This would enable airlines to continue providing connectivity without eating too heavily into their margins.

Six domestic airlines recently held discussions on the issue.

They were Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air and Vietjet Thailand.

“Having appropriate support measures at a time when the aviation industry is facing volatility from external factors will help strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness,” said Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, President of the Airlines Association of Thailand.

The Association of Thai Travel Agents recently said forward bookings from Thailand to Europe connecting via the Middle East are down about 30%.
