Thai golf mobile app Golfdigg a first for Asia
A new mobile app has been launched that offers last-minute deals at golf courses in Thailand using a ‘book today, play tomorrow’ model.
Golfdigg allows users to book tee times at mid- to high-end courses via the mobile app with a discount of up to 50% off walk-in prices.
Currently bookings are possible at just nine Thai courses but that should increase to 20 by the end of the year, according to CEO Bhurich Aksorntub.
He said the Thai golf market is large and growing, with over 250 courses and 500,000 regular golfers.
Thailand is also one of Asia’s top destinations for golf tourism.
Bhurich said the company’s revenue comes from golf course commissions of between 10-20% for each booking.
"The beauty of Golfdigg is that it addresses the golf course problem of empty time slots," he said.
"We help the course to utilise their existing assets to create more revenue as golf courses have fixed costs, while they always have the empty time slots."
"This is not cannibalizing," he added. "We have found that this additional revenue comes from new customers who have never played the course."
Bhurich says Golfdigg is the only mobile app of its kind in Asia and the company is seeking funding to accelerate growth in other Asian markets.
