Thai hotels chief sees bleak outlook for business events
Thailand’s events market is years away from recovery, due to political uncertainties that continue to dampen confidence, Thai Hotels Association president, Prakit Chinamourpong, told members last week.
TTR Daily reported the THA president was outlining market challenges for the country’s leading hotels claiming it was over-optimistic to believe event planners would book Thailand for international events for the foreseeable future.
“We are falling behind because of an unstable political situation,†he said
“Also the MICE market is a sensitive sector and we should not dream about attracting international conferences now,†he added stating it would take at least four years to win back confidence.
THA member hotels recorded an improvement in occupancy in August, but that did not compensate for losses earlier in the year mainly in sensitive markets such as Japan.
