Thai resort wants Golden Oldies to stay and play
The mayor of Pattaya has called on retirees, investors, and long-stay visitors to make Thailand’s beach resort city their "second home".
Ithiphol Khunplume, Thailand’s youngest mayor, said that the city had undergone a major revamp and could now provide "the best of recreational, healthcare and infrastructure facilities" for long-term residents.
He said ageing populations in the industrialised countries, poor economic conditions, and harsh winters were encouraging senior citizens to explore new places of residence in the warm-weather countries of Asia.
The mayor said Pattaya has seen extensive development in accommodation options for visitors considering a long stay, ranging from five-star international hotels and serviced apartments to guesthouses, houseboats, family inns and hotels, beachside huts and bungalows.
"In addition, with its 30-plus international standard golf courses, there are challenges for golfers, no matter their handicap," he said.
