Thailand enters year of mourning following king’s death
Thailand has announced a year of mourning following the death of the world’s longest serving monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
The king, aged 88, was widely revered in Thailand, which he had ruled for 70 years.
The Foreign Office said that as a result of the mourning, tourists would face restrictions on entertainment, including access to bars, restaurants and shops.
It said visitors should be sensitive to the feelings of locals following the death of the King and, if possible, where sombre clothing.
In an announcement today, Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha said that entertainment should be ‘toned down’ for the next month.
