Thailand nightclub fire kills 15
Thailand’s prime minister ordered a full investigation into a deadly blaze at a nightclub which killed 14 people.
Fire ripped through the Mountain B nightspot in Chonburi province with dozens of people shown on footage fleeing the building with their clothes on fire.
The Sawang Rojanathammasathan Rescue Foundation said another 40 were injured.
Fire officials said the fire was hastened by flammable foam on the walls of the nightclub.
Firefighters took over three hours to extinguish the fire.
The four women and 10 men who died were all Thai nationals and aged between 17 and 49.
One was the singer of the band playing at the club.
She said a musician friend who escaped had told her the fire broke out in front of the band and spread rapidly.
Police are investigating if fire escapes were present in the single-storey building and engineers are inspecting the structure amid fears it could collapse.
The Royal Thai police said the owner is under investigation as the business which was previously a restaurant, didn’t have a permit to operate as a nightclub.
