Monday, 29 Sep, 2006 0

On the opening day of Thailand Travel Mart 2006 +, Mrs Phornsiri Manoharn, formerly Tourism Authority for Thailand’s Director in Australia and now The Deputy Governor for Thailand’s domestic market, set the coup impact record straight, while also telling the media about the organisation’s future tourism plans.

227 buyers from 42 countries are meeting sellers from Thailand and neighbouring Mekong countries this week and the Deputy Governor said that only one cancellation due to political unrest had been received from a Canadian buyer.

She added that she believes that communication is key to the lack of detrimental effect on tourism so far, with the Deputy Governor asking the media to let readers know that there is no unrest in Bangkok.

She sadi that the interim leaders have already met twice with all ambassadors to Thailand to persuade them to advise their governments that all is well in Bangkok and Thailand and to seek a lifting of any travel bans in place.

The first six months of 2006 have shown a massive increase of 21.5% over the same period in 2005 and assists TAT in achieving its target of 13.8m visitors in 2006 and 15m in 2007 which will generate about US$14.5b.
