The Eastern Mediterranean comes to Sydney

Sunday, 08 Mar, 2006 0

Over 240 members of Sydney’s travel industry enjoyed the highly fitting setting of the Athenian Greek restaurant in Sydney’s CBD last night for the Eastern Mediterranean Tourism Association Roadshow.

Not only did the columns and resplendent grandeur of the Athenian provide a great backdrop for the excellent Mediterranean food, but the belly dancer swirling around the tables completed the Eastern Mediterranean theme and scene and the smells of Mediterranean cooking as helped to transport us mentally to scenes of sun drenched mountains, blue skies, blue ocean and whitewashed houses of the Eastern Med.

On to business though and in the highly efficient manner the industry has come to expect from EMTA Chairman, Iain Ferguson and Secretary David Beirman, the evening was highly educational, while also a great deal of fun.

Rather than the traditional (and sadly often rather boring!) product presentations, each presenter used a destination as their theme, giving a kaleidoscopic and very revealing view of the one of the most historic regions in the world.

Interestingly, over 700,000 Australians visit the Eastern Mediterranean every year and a good example of interest in the region by Australians is that Turkey recently experienced increases in Australian visitors from 60,000 to 90,000.

Eleven Eastern Mediterranean countries were featured in the seminars and presenters included Aegeantours, CHAT Tours, El Al Israel Airlines, Exotic Destinations, Globus and Cosmos, Greek National Tourism Organisation, Croatia Travel Centre, On The Go Tours, Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre, The Imaginative Traveller, Contiki Holidays 18-35’s, Inside Holidays, Insight Vacations, International Destinations, Israel Tourism Office, Kumuka Worldwide, Made Easy Tours, Mediterranean Holidays and Tours, Peregrine Adventures, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Sun Island Tours, Tempo Holidays, Temptation Tours, Timeless Tours, Touchdown Tours and Trafalgar Tours.

Only a few evenings in the series remain, including: –
