Third death in Grand Canyon in days
The body of a young woman has been recovered in the Grand Canyon, and marks the third death there in just over a week.
Park officials said the body of Leticia A. Castillo, 20, of Albuquerque, NM, was found about 150 feet beneath Twin Overlooks.
She is thought to have entered Grand Canyon National Park nearly a week ago.
The body was sent to Flagstaff for an autopsy.
Two deaths were reported in two days on July 31 and then Aug 1.
First, a 20-year-old North Carolina man slipped at the South Rim and fell about 400 feet.
A day later, a 43-year-old Missouri man died during a BASE jump attempt, which is not permitted in the park.
Overall, there have been 11 deaths so far this year, spokesperson Joelle Baird said.
This is equal to the total for all of 2023.
