Thomas Cook in talks to offload airline
Thomas Cook is looking to offload its airline as part of its ‘turnaround plan’.
The travel firm has been talking to potential buyers including rival airlines and private equity firms about either selling the airline or creating a joint venture with a competitor, reports the Sunday Times.
It suggests one possibility could be a tie-up with Monarch.
But agents are sceptical, commenting on the trade’s unofficial Facebook forum, Travel Gossip.
One said: "Doubt it very much, especially after ordering 11 Airbus A321’s and refurbishing all the long haul A330’s.
Another added: "That would mean they’d be selling Condor. I’d be surprised if they were wanting to part with them. They’re a well respected, profitable airline."
Thomas Cook has already amalgamated four airline fleets into one.
It has also ordered new airbus planes and is spending £100m on refurbishing the interiors.
A spokesman told the Sunday Times: "We are very pleased with the development of our airline operation… We see it as an important part of our business and a support of our profitable growth strategy.
"Of course, we are always open for opportunities."
