Thomas Cook looks to fill 325 roles in new Palma offices

Thomas Cook is opening a new office in Palma and is looking to fill around 325 new roles.

The new office will employ close to 700 people, creating the new positons in addition to the existing 375-strong workforce in Mallorca.

Staff will begin to move into the new building from February, completing the move from the existing premises in March.

The new jobs will build on Thomas Cook’s growing presence on Mallorca since it first established a base on the island for a number of its centralised services 10 years ago.

Palma is already home to Thomas Cook’s Connected Services team, its in-destination inbound agency, which arranges holidays across Spain and Portugal, and a range of other functions which support its European operations.

The new roles will be created over the coming months and will primarily be in financial support.

Thomas Cook said they are being created as part of a decision to establish Palma as its Group Financial Shared Service Centre.

It said it had chosen Palma due to its central location within Europe and an ‘abundance’ of skilled professionals from universities in Palma and mainland Spain.

Group CEO Peter Fankhauser said: "Our new office in Palma is a great example of how we can work smarter to bring expertise together in one place and provide a high quality service to all of Thomas Cook and its customers.

"This fantastic new building will let us grow our already sizeable presence and reaffirms our commitment to Palma."

Thomas Cook recently announced the launch of a new airline to be based in Palma, called Thomas Cook Airlines Balearics, which begins flying in Spring 2018.

The Palma expansion comes just weeks after Thomas Cook announced 50 more shop closures in the UK, putting 400 jobs at risk.

The closures are part of a retail review which had already seen the closure of 17 shops in May and 39 in mid-February, and the loss of 50 homeworker roles.
