Thomas Cook name takes to the skies
JMC airlines is to be renamed Thomas Cook as part of the company’s rebranding strategy, it was confirmed today.
All 24 JMC aircraft will be rebranded by summer 2003 as part of a wider move that sees all 85 aircraft in the fleet of parent company Thomas Cook AG – including Condor, Condor Berlin and SunExpress – given the Thomas Cook name.
Thomas Cook UK chief executive Alan Stewart said: “The Thomas Cook name is synonymous with quality travel. By Summer 2003 our customers will benefit from absolute transparency. They will be offered Thomas Cook branded holidays through Thomas Cook branded distribution channels and fly on Thomas Cook branded planes.”
The company also revealed today that Thomas Cook will be used as a major tour operating brand in Germany. It follows the recent announcement that a Thomas Cook tour operating brand is to be introduced following the failure of the JMC name to penetrate all market sectors.
From next summer JMC will remain only for the families and young adults market, with Sunset reintroduced as the budget brand replacing JMC Essentials. The Thomas Cook brand will target confident or frequent travellers. The other brands in the Thomas Cook (UK) portfolio – including Style Holidays, Club 18-30, Neilson, and Sunworld Ireland – remain unchanged.
Thomas Cook AG chairman and chief executive Stefan Pichler said: “The Thomas Cook name is the best known and respected travel brand in the world. We intend to capitalise on it fully. I have every confidence that over the next few years we will further develop what is the oldest name in travel to being seen as the best by our customers for quality, value and service.”
