Thomas Cook says sorry for double flight delay

Thomas Cook has apologised to holidaymakers to Cyprus after they were forced to endure not one but two flight delays of more than 17 hours.

Several passengers are now seeking compensation after missing a day of their holiday and arriving home so late that some missed a day’s work.

The outbound Thomas Cook Airlines flight to Larnaca, which was due to leave Cardiff at 13.35hrs on September 21, was delayed until 07:00 the following morning due to a bird strike.

The return flight a week later was due to land at 00.30 on Monday but didn’t arrive until 17:45 due to a technical fault.

Thomas Cook, which put people up in hotels during each delay, said: "We’d like to sincerely apologise to our customers for the delay to their flight from Larnaca to Cardiff, which has been caused by an unexpected technical fault on the aircraft operating the flight."

He said the outbound flight was affected by a double bird strike on its way into Cardiff and therefore required an inspection of the engines.

"We know how frustrating these delays are, and we’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding," he added
