Thomas Cook strike talks set for today
Unite reps from Thomas Cook are preparing to meet in Manchester today to discuss industrial action.
It was revealed yesterday that Thomas Cook cabin crew Unite members voted to strike over the announcement of 498 job losses as part of a consultative ballot.
The workers believe the operator should offer more generous terms of redundancy. Currently TC is offering two weeks per year redundancy pay. Unite believes this should be increased to three weeks, with a £5000 lump sum on top.
The average cabin crew pay is £15,000-a-year.
The vote to strike followed break-down talks with the company’s management over its refusal to improve the redundancy terms.
Unite has about 1,150 members of the 1,800 cabin crew workforce.
Commenting on the outcome of Unite’s consultative ballot, Thomas Cook Airlines said: “We’re committed to continuing meaningful consultation with our people, their representatives and Unite as we look for opportunities to reduce the potential number of job losses.”
