Thomson concludes deal to acquire Aphrodite Hills
Thomson has finally concluded a deal to take over the popular Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus, which will be transformed into one of its luxury Sensatori resorts.
The deal, which was agreed yesterday, will see the hotel close in December for a major refurbishment.
When it reopens in April 2015, it will be sold exclusively by TUI operators in the UK.
Aphrodite Hills’ UK spokesman confirmed the hotel will end its agreement with InterContinental and will be managed by Thomson from December.
However, the deal does not include the Aphrodite Hills residences and villas.
Thomson first announced it had acquired the resort in April, but Aphrodite Hills accused the operator of jumping the gun, insisting a deal had not been signed, and the operator was forced to suspend sales of the hotel as a Sensatori resort.
However, it was confirmed today that a deal has now been struck and Thomson has resumed selling packages to its ninth Sensatori property.
It said the hotel would undergo a multi-million pound refurbishment including modernising the rooms, expanding the pool area, incorporating new water features, and updating the entertainment area prior to re-opening next April.
