Thomson names new ‘next generation’ store
Thomson has named the The Metro Centre in Newcastle as the fourth location for its next generation stores.
The high-tech megastore, which will be the first of its kind in the northeast of England for Thomson, will be the largest of the chain’s next generation shops. The others are in Bluewater shopping centre in the southeast, Bristol and Liverpool.
TUI Travel UK & Ireland managing director David Burling said he was "incredibly pleased" with the performance of the existing next generation stores, which include innovations such as vast touch screen interactive maps and interactive desks where customers can research their own holidays.
"They are all exceeding expectations," he said. "It gives us real confidence that with the right technology and with our really strong people we can really take business off competitors with these shops."
Product director Mark Hall said many of the existing elements of the next generation stores would be included in the new outlet in The Metro Centre, which will replace two existing shops and become Thomson’s flagship store
Hall said a shortlist of other shops to be converted into next generation stores had been drawn up, but he said the rollout would be gradual due to the expense. "We are certainly not stopping at four," he said.
