Thomson to trial kids’ play areas on 787s

Thomson is considering testing children’s play areas at the back of its aircraft after appointing its first child ambassador.

Four-year-old Amber Winters from Birmingham won a national competition to name Thomson Airways’ newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Pixie Dust.

As part of the #Nameourplane competition, which was only open to four to 11-year-olds, entrants were also asked to submit ideas on how Thomson could make the plane better for children.

Amber, who suggested a play area with bean bags and a reading corner, was one of 10 finalists chosen to attend a special Ambassador Day at Gatwick airport to put forward her child-friendly innovation ideas to a  panel of judges.

The youngsters were also treated to a tour of the new aircraft with Thomson Airways pilot Stuart Gruber and Amber won a family holiday to Thomson’s 5T Sensatori Resort in Mexico next February half-term.

Gruber said: "All of our finalists had some fantastic ideas, so it was a really hard decision selecting our overall winner.

"We felt that Pixie Dust was a great name for an aircraft that takes millions of families away every year and that it sums up the magic that our employees add to each customer’s holiday experience.

"We’re looking forward to trialling some of Amber’s suggestions on-board the new aircraft."
