Thomsonfly jet slides off runway
Air accident investigators have launched an inquiry after a Thomsonfly jet carrying 189 passengers home from Arrecife, Lanzarote slid off the runway at Newcastle Airport last night.
None of the passengers was injured in the incident which happened in snowy conditions, but the airport was closed while the Boeing 737 was towed a short way across the tarmac.
According to a BBC report, the aircraft overshot its landing position slightly, but it remained on the hard service.
The airport has since re-opened and a message on its website said flights were ‘returning to normal’. Passengers are being told to turn up as usual for their flights today, but those with concerns about the status of their flights are told to contact their airlines.
