Thousands evacuated on Corfu
At least 2,500 people have been evacuated overnight to safe ground in Corfu.
The Greek emergency communications service said several towns in the northeast are under threat of advancing wildfires.
People in Santa, Megoula, Porta, Palia Perithia and Sinies were told to leave and seek respite in the town of Kassiopi.
Those in the popular resort of Nissaki were also ordered to leave.
Twelve areas have now been evacuated, the Greek Fire Service said.
Jet2 and TUI have cancelled flights and holidays to both Rhodes and Corfu, although Jet2 said it may restart Corfu flights tomorrow.
British Airways says customers with booked Corfu holidays between now and July 30 can rebook to a later date free of charge.
The wildfires on Corfu were possibly a result of arson, the region’s mayor said.
Several repatriation flights landed in the UK overnight from Rhodes with travellers speaking of a ‘traumatic’ evacuation process.
Many spent the previous night sleeping of floors in schools, airports and other facilities.
As of yesterday, there were about 10,000 British holidaymakers still on Rhodes.
Another 30,000 have Rhodes holidays booked for travel in the coming weeks.
