Thousands of passengers could be left stranded from Wednesday
A Sky News report says that thousands of passengers throughout the country could be left stranded from Wednesday, when Qantas staff are set to strike.
Union bosses for engineers met with the carrier’s representatives in Sydney on Monday to sort out a dispute over an enterprise agreement.
The engineers are saying they will strike on Wednesday, unless the dispute is settled.
Meanwhile, Qantas passengers will have to shoulder higher fares starting January 17th because the carrier is raising its fuel surcharge on international routes.
The levy on flights to Europe will rise $25 to $210, while a North or South America flight will rise $20.
Asia fares will rise $15 and flights to New Zealand will be $10 higher.
The good news is that the domestic fuel charge will remain steady at $26.
Qantas says it is facing record fuel prices as oil hovers around US$100 US a barrel.
