Tiger back to focus on safety – and profits

Tuesday, 12 Aug, 2011 0

There was a big turnout at Melbourne Airport for the first Tiger Airways Australia flight since the airline was grounded for six weeks because of safety concerns.

On the first flight were Tony Davis, Tiger Airways Australia CEO, together with Tiger’s newly appointed safety advisor, Captain Chris Manning.

Tiger was selling tickets for the flight from about A$100 online, including taxes and fees, less than half the price of Qantas and Jetstar prices.

The airline said plenty of tickets were available for the Melbourne-Sydney flights over the next few days.

In a statement, Tiger Airways said that following the reinstatement of Tiger’s Air Operator’s Certificate by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, the airline would now focus on reassuring the Australian public that safety is the airline’s highest priority.

The airline said it is resuming services with a simplified flight programme in order to focus on flying popular and profitable routes.

Whilst flights – initially restricted to nine return flights per day – will resume between Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) and Sydney, other routes will be announced shortly.
