Australia’s claimed only true low fare airline, Tiger Airways today announced that it would commence flying between Melbourne and Newcastle, Hobart and Canberra from the start of 2008, with one-way fares starting from a low $9.99 inclusive of taxes and charges.

Flights are subject to regulatory approval.

Canberra will for the first time have access to the benefits of a true low cost airline and real competition. “This new service by Tiger Airways will provide the people of the ACT and surrounding region with consistently low cost airfares.”

“Not everyone who flies to Canberra has an expense account” Tiger airways CEO Tony Davis said.

The announcement of Newcastle heralds Tiger Airways’ first foray into NSW, “Newcastle is an attractive alternative for tourists with its wine and food experiences and also gives travelers who live in the northern suburbs of Sydney a real low fare alternative to trudging through the traffic to Mascot.” Tony Davis said.

Due to the impressive response to its services to Launceston, Tiger airways also announced today that it would be commencing services to Hobart from 15 January, “now Tasmania has access to a true low fare airline in both the north and the south.”

“The Tasmanian economy will notice the benefits of low cost access to the rest of Australia.“ Tony Davis said.

“Melbourne and Victoria, in particular its tourism industry, are reaping the benefits of their foresight in winning Tiger Airways’ headquarters” Tony Davis said as he announced a massive seat sale would commence today at 11 am on www.tigerairways.com for travel between Melbourne and:
