Tiger rebrands for a ‘new era’
A tiger can change its stripes – just ask Tiger Airways, which yesterday rebranded as Tiger Air.
The new branding comes days ahead of Virgin Australia’s 60% takeover of Tiger.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission approved the Virgin deal in April, saying Tiger was unlikely to survive if it didn’t go through.
The airline said the change signalled the start of a “new era" although CEO Rob Sharp said change wouldn’t come easily.
“I think when you change a brand it is something you don’t flick just flick a switch and all of a sudden you are a new airline. We are very aware that it is a journey. This is just the beginning."
Sharp said the safety issues that had dogged the airline were "a thing of the past".
The airline has swapped its leaping tiger logo for a black and orange Tigerair motif on a white background and has reworked its website.
