Time to think again about Dubai

Saturday, 17 May, 2010 0

Surprisingly, the recent “The Mole Poll” question: "Would you sell Dubai for sports and activities?" yielded a mixed response, with slightly more of you answering ‘no’ than ‘yes’.

For those that said ‘no’ – think again! Reconsider Dubai’s credentials as an action adventure hotspot, and the opportunities you might be missing. Dubai’s facilities for both active participation and spectator sports have brought well-deserved international recognition.

There is a constant stream of international sporting fixtures punctuating the calendar which offer spectators the chance to attend many exciting events.

The highly anticipated year-long calendar includes the Dubai Tennis Championships in February; the Dubai World Cup (horseracing) at the new Meydan racecourse in March; Dubai World Championship (golf) in November); and the Dubai Rugby Sevens and Dubai Grand Prix (powerboating) both in December.

Dubai also boasts some of the world’s finest sports facilities for holidaymakers wanting their own piece of the action.

Why not suggest a burst of adrenaline to kickstart the day – iFly Dubai has just opened in the Mirdif City Centre Mall, the vertical wind tunnel offering the sensation of skydiving without ever having to board a plane.

Anything is possible in Dubai, from deep sea fishing, to scuba diving and rock climbing. And Ski Dubai offers the opportunity to ski on the world’s first indoor black run covered with real snow all year round.

Have a round of golf on one of the many championship courses, two of which offer a night time floodlit experience; play polo at Desert Palm or go horse riding or clay pigeon shooting at Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa.

Or perhaps recommend a trip to the desert where a range of desert safaris are available, with itineraries including 4×4 dune bashing, camel riding and sand boarding, complemented by traditional Arabian experiences.

Dubai clearly boasts some of the most renowned sporting events and facilities on the planet.

Whether it’s attending world-class sporting events or enjoying an action adventure break, Dubai could be the answer for any client looking for a high octane holiday destination.
