Timeshare debate first for ABTA Convention
A debate on the timeshare industry is to feature at the ABTA Travel Convention for the first time.
Petchey Leisure managing director Robin Mills and Preben Vestdam, president and CEO of Cendant Leisure Real Estate Solutions – both board directors of the Organisation for Timeshare in Europe – will speak in a session entitled ‘Holiday and Property Ownership, a new win-win opportunity’.
Being chaired by Advantage chief John McEwan, the debate will cover the opportunities open to travel agents through timeshare and overseas property sales. The Better Business session takes place on November 27 at 10.30 at the convention in Marrakech.
It is the first time that timeshare has been featured on the ABTA agenda and the OTE directors will explain how the sales of resort inspection visits, trial offers and commission on sales at resorts are becoming increasingly open to travel agents.
OTE Communications Council chairman Mills said: “We have been talking to ABTA for some time to create strong links between ourselves and the travel industry’s main trade body, and this inclusion in the Convention is indicative of the growing acceptance of timeshare as an integral part of the travel industry.
“I hope we can encourage British travel agents to recognise alternative revenue streams by talking to OTE about retailing our product.”
