Dear TravelMole Member
In the US yesterday, travellers lined up in airports and crowded
trains and highways as they began the first major holiday travel
period since the September 11 attacks.
Thanksgiving notwithstanding, there are signs that confidence is
picking up in the travel sector. Ski bookings in Europe are up
on last year, the organisers of last week’s WTM reported it a
success, and the announcement on Tuesday by Transport secretary
Stephen Byers of the decision to give Heathrow’s T5 the go-ahead
will give a timely boost to the aviation sector.
And as this newswire is being prepared, TravelMole has learnt
that Ryanair is to open a new European hub at Frankfurt’s Hahn
airport (about 60 miles west of Frankfurt). Ryanair will operate
more than 30 flights a day from the base to destinations in the
UK, Ireland, France, Italy and Norway. See:

1. BAA welcomes Terminal 5 decision
BAA chief executive Mike Hodgkinson has described the
Government’s decision to give Heathrow’s Terminal 5 the go-ahead
as “a huge boost” for the aviation industry. Transport secretary
Stephen Byers announced the decision to give T5 the go-ahead in
the House of Commons on Tuesday. He said: “Such a development is
in the national interest. It will enable Heathrow to remain a
world class airport. It will bring benefits to the British
economy both locally and nationally”.

P&O Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean Cruises are to merge,
creating the world’s largest cruise company.
