Editor’s Note

Dear TravelMole Member

In the US yesterday, travellers lined up in airports and crowded
trains and highways as they began the first major holiday travel
period since the September 11 attacks.

Thanksgiving notwithstanding, there are signs that confidence is
picking up in the travel sector. Ski bookings in Europe are up
on last year, the organisers of last week’s WTM reported it a
success, and the announcement on Tuesday by Transport secretary
Stephen Byers of the decision to give Heathrow’s T5 the go-ahead
will give a timely boost to the aviation sector.

And as this newswire is being prepared, TravelMole has learnt
that Ryanair is to open a new European hub at Frankfurt’s Hahn
airport (about 60 miles west of Frankfurt). Ryanair will operate
more than 30 flights a day from the base to destinations in the
UK, Ireland, France, Italy and Norway. See:

Best wishes
