Tokoriki Turnbulls give gift of education to Fijian children
Tokoriki Island Resort’s Australian owners Andrew [pictured right during The Mole’s recent visit with guests from the UK] and Yvonne Turnbull have celebrated their 10th anniversary at the resort by presenting local children with the ultimate gift – their very own school in the Mamanuca Islands.
The new school has been built on Yanuya Island, home to some 250 people, many of whom are employed at Tokoriki Island Resort and whose children, until now, were forced to travel long distances by sea every day to receive an education.
Mr Turnbull said the construction of the new school means the sons and daughters of Tokoriki Island Resort staff will now have much improved education opportunities, adding, “This in turn will raise learning standards and provide a much greater range of career options for these children.”
“Furthermore, other children from neighbouring villages will also be able to attend Yanuya School so this project really has become a Tokoriki Island Resort/Mamanuca Islands regional initiative.”
The Turnbulls are already renowned for their generosity in the region, with the couple also funding a local ladies netball competition and the annual ‘Turnbull Sevens’ tournament which attracts rugby teams from all corners of the Fijian archipelago.
Tokoriki Island Resort is also doing its bit to educate Australian visitors on the value a Fiji holiday currently represents with its latest holiday deal, with the resort offering three free meals a day on all bookings staying a minimum of five nights – this includes full breakfast, a two-course lunch and a three-course dinner.
Valid until 31 May 2007, prices start from AUD1468* per person twin share based on a minimum five days stay in the resort’s Deluxe Beach Bure-style accommodation.
*Conditions apply. Please note the price does not include international airfares.
