All hotels try to hide some facts from their guests because they fear to loose reputation in case these facts get exposed. However, it’s not fair to keep the guests in darkness. So, here we give you the list of 10 vital things about hotels that hotel owners never wanted you to know:

Hotels offer discounts to cope with the past

The hotel industry witnessed the worst phase in 2009 due to the great recession, when the average charges of rooms dropped to $97, which was $107 in 2008. This economic downturn delivered a severe blow to the hotel industry, which they tried to balance by slashing staff and amenities.

However, with the recovery of the situation, the industry is gradually regaining its market but the hotels which suffered during the recession do not seem to offer discounts. On the other hand, some hotels want to balance their previous losses from this year’s profits by offering complimentary parking and other benefits to allow more guests. Try to book hotels which are offering discounts over the Internet.

Book with the hotel directly

Try to book your hotel room directly, avoiding the middleman to avail the upgraded special offers presented by the hotel. The hotels generally offer more preference to the loyalty-card holders.

Be cautious about your credit card

The hotel goers are becoming the soft targets of the credit card hackers, who are found to access the password and other vital information of the credit cards carried by the hotel customers. So it is better to get aware of your credit card data.

The extra fees charged by the hotels

In recent times, the hotels are loosing their revenues from many sources, which they used to earn before. Previously, hotels used to charge heavily for using the hotel phones. But now, all customers carry cell phones. There are many other similar cases. Now, to increase revenues, hotels have hiked the parking charges and added the enigmatic “resort fee” in most cases. However, most hotels are ready to negotiate with some of these fees, to survive in the competitive hotel industry.

Lately, fewer travelers are preferring hotels that feature restaurants, spas or golf courses. However, it has been found that 70 percent of the revenue earned from the bars and 60 percent from the spas by the hotels are contributed by the locals. Many hotels that are famed for catering only business travelers, are also offering concession on weekend rates to attract the locals.

Most of the time the pictures of the hotel rooms found in hotel websites is not similar to its original look. The hotel marketing has a tendency of deceiving the customers in this case. However, exceptions are always there, where the hotel authority ensures that the images are authentic.

The bedbugs are becoming a serious issue for the hotel industry. It has been reported by the National Pest Management Association that 67 percent of the pest management companies are engaged in treating bedbugs at several hotels. So on arriving at a particular hotel, checkout the corners of the mattress for bedbugs or look for the brown stain left by them.

Look for the best deals

Individual hotels offer some nice deals that are promoted through the social networking sites or e-mail and newsletters. So, if you keep track with the hotel, you are likely to avail discounted room rates or special spa offers. However, you need to put some effort to locate these offers, since the hotels are not very passionate about these deals.

The traveler-review sites are playing a key role in the up gradation of the hotel industry. The hotel authorities are taking into account the negative comments published about them online and are trying to rectify those issues.
