Top business leaders urge Prime Minister to approve Heathrow extension now
Top business leaders have urged the Prime Minister to approve a new Heathrow runway now or British companies will lose out to European rivals.
In a letter to The Telegraph, 50 business leaders called on David Cameron to show ‘strong leadership’ without ‘yet another lengthy consultation’ that would delay the process.
The letter, organised by campaign group Let Britain Fly, is signed by top executives including Sir Martin Sorrell, the chief executive of advertising group WPP; Sir Win Bischoff, the former chairman of Lloyds Banking Group; John Longworth, chief executive of the British Chambers of Commerce; and the managing directors of Harrods and Selfridges.
Government insiders have reportedly said the Prime Minister believes it would be acceptable to back the recommendation of the independent Airports Commission, chaired by Sir Howard Davies, for a new runway to be built at Heathrow, instead of extending Gatwick.
