Top Scottish agent bought by global firm
Scottish agent Scotia Travel has been bought by the London-based cruise arm of global travel firm Protravel.
Pro Luxury Cruise plans to establish itself as a leading UK player in the luxury cruise sector and the purchase of Scotia will help this and allow Scotia more exposure to the global cruise market.
Founded in 1947, Scotia Travel is an independent travel agent based in Glasgow. Over 70% of Scotia Travel’s business is cruise-related and Kennedy Cree will continue to head up the business under the management of Protravel International.
Protravel International, which intends to keep the Scotia Travel brand, has plans for an aggressive marketing campaign to promote both businesses.
It is believed there are looking at further acquisitions.
Catherine Ashurst has been appointed to run Pro Luxury Cruise, responsible for sales and marketing on a day to day basis.
Managing director Tina Rose of Protravel said: "We have been looking at ways to extend the portfolio of travel products we provide to our existing clients. Both the acquisition of Scotia and the appointment of Catherine Ashurst will support our competitive positioning and impact in this growing market."
