Tour bus terror for Top End visitors
A female tour bus driver in Australia’s Northern Territory tested positive to drink driving after alarming her passengers with erratic driving.
Recounting a terrifying drive, one of the tour party told the Northern Territory News that she tried to grab a bottle from their allegedly drunk bus driver and offered to take the wheel.
The passenger finally called police after the bus driver became aggressive and drove dangerously.
The minibus was returning to Darwin from a trip to the jumping crocodiles at Adelaide River when the passengers decided enough was enough.
Police were waiting in Darwin city centre and breath-tested the driver.
"She went on the opposite side of the road to oncoming traffic," said the female passenger, a visitor from Ireland.
"I roared, and she just said: ‘That was dodgy’.
"There was a creek and she nearly drove in, and she said: ‘It’s only water’.
The woman has been charged with drink driving and is due to appear in court next month.
