Tourism minister: Thailand tourist tax effective from late 2025
Thailand’s Tourism Minister says the proposed tourist tax will come into force before the end of 2025.
The THB300 levy is payable by inbound foreign tourists and will come into effect during the late-year high season, said Tourism and Sports Minister Sorawong Thienthong.
However, the full details of how it will be implemented are still unclear.
Sorawong said it could be integrated with the upcoming Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) to streamline tax collection.
The TDAC launches on May 1.
Sorawong rejects the notion that the tax will impact foreign tourist numbers as the cost is relatively low.
It will also allow travellers to access insurance cover during their stay.
“The tourist fee may not be a large amount that would put tourists off, but if collection is complicated, it will be inconvenient. Our aim is to make the process as smooth as possible,” he said.
