Tourism Society applauds consultation on short-term accommodation registration
The Tourism Society welcomed the government’s call for evidence on tourism accommodation registration, in response to the impact of short-term holiday lettings.
It encouraged all its members with relevant experience to participate in the consultation.
The growth in short-term lettings presents both opportunities and challenges for tourism in England.
The Tourism Society recognises that individual economic opportunities should be encouraged but also need to be well managed.
It calls the government to avoid implementing additional regulations that restrict small tourism businesses unless they are clearly required to tackle problems.
Any measures should support the interests of all stakeholders in the tourism sector, the Tourism Society says, and prosperity of all types of tourism business should be of equal concern.
It recognises the scale of the impact of short-term lettings is likely to vary considerably between destinations.
The Tourism Society awaits the results of the consultation with interest and will make a further response based on the evidence presented.
