Tourists in America and Asia face killer storms

If you think the weather is rotten in the UK at present, spare a thought for people who are holidaying abroad.

Many countries are being battered by freak storms that are claiming hundreds of lives.

In Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan, floods have killed nearly 300 people, and in Japan, torrential rain has triggered landslides and flooded city centre streets, killing at least six people, Sky News reported.

Some areas of Japan have been lashed by 17 inches of rain in the past week, forcing the authorities to evacuate thousands of people to higher ground.

By contrast China has seen temperatures soar into the mid-90s and in the capital, Beijing, dozens of people have drowned after jumping into rivers and lakes to cool down. Many of the victims are children.

In the US, dry weather and changeable winds have sparked forest and bush fires along the west coast from Arizona to Alaska. Dust storms have also swept across central areas of the country, and in the east, there have been floods.
