Tourists injured in Macau after runaway bus slams into building

A runaway bus crashed into a building in Macau, injuring 32 Chinese tourists including three who are in a serious condition.

The bus was carrying a tour group from Shenzhen on a one-day visit when it careered down a hill without the driver.

The driver was outside the bus but it is thought he did not apply the brake properly.

The bus then started to roll down a hill and came to a halt when it slammed into a shopfront.

One passenger has a life threatening head trauma injury, officials said.

The woman is ‘currently in a coma after having been submitted to a surgical intervention to stop the brain from bleeding,’ Health Bureau director Lei Chin Ion said.

Two other women suffered serious injuries including head injuries and multiple fractures.

Public Security Police Force acting deputy commissioner Wong Chi Fai told a press conference the 50-year old driver is being investigated for ‘inappropriate practices in his driving.’

The building hit by the bus will likely need to be reinforced, officials said, but no passer-by or occupants of the building were injured.
