Tourists shun health in favour of cancelling milk
Report by Steve Jones
Almost a quarter of tourists are more concerned about cancelling milk or changing money than they are about ensuring they are vaccinated against potentially fatal disease, a study has revealed.
Research, conducted by Lightspeed and backed by the British Travel Health Association, showed 24% of travellers regard vaccinations as well down the list of priorities in preparation for an overseas holiday.
A report, Taking Time Out for Travel, also revealed that seven out of ten will consult friends and family or surf the Internet for information rather than consult a doctor over healthcare issues.
The BTHA has now called for a campaign to raise the level of awareness about vaccinations.
“People are putting their lives at risk by not paying enough attention to their travel health,” said BTHA’s Carolyn Driver.
The findings, however, appear are at odds with other results which show almost half of woman questioned would not travel to India for fear of contracting disease. A further 43% would avoid travelling to Africa and 42% would steer clear of Thailand.
