Tourists tear gassed and robbed by hooded gang outside Paris hotel
A group of masked attackers sprayed 19 tourists with tear gas before robbing them outside an airport hotel in Paris.
The tourists were waiting for a shuttle bus outside the Novotel in Roissey-en-France, near Charles de Gaulle, on Saturday when the incident happened.
According to reports, the thieves, who were hooded and dressed in black, arrived in at least two vehicles and robbed the 12 French, four American and three Moroccan tourists of their luggage and personal belongings on Saturday.
One tourist who tried to fight them off was left with hand injuries.
French police said gangs of robbers often target tourists at airport hotels.
Hotels around the airport as well as the motorway leading to Charles de Gaulle and Le Bourget – Europe’s busiest private jet airport – are particularly targeted by thieves, according to newswire The Local.
In an almost identical attack, robbers sprayed a group of Chinese tourists with tear gas as they loaded luggage onto a bus outside their hotel at Charles de Gaulle in August last year.
The French government is planning ‘mobile police stations’ in tourist hot spots to help tourists report crimes, The Local added.
