Tourists trapped on island rescued by Thai navy
Tourists trapped on a Thai island after a heavy storm were rescued by the Thai navy.
Around 157 tourists were stuck on Racha Yai, an island off the east coast of Phuket, after a rainstorm brought strong winds and four-metre high waves.
The naval ship, HTMS Sriracha went to the rescue and took the tourists back to Phuket’s Muang district.
The storm also damaged hotels and resorts on the Racha Yai island, police told the Bangkok Post.
The island is usually accessible from Phuket by speedboat and is known for its crystal clear sea, white powder sand, snorkeling, diving and fishing.
