Trade not fully in support of animal welfare action

Expedia recently became the latest travel company to announce a change in its policy towards animal welfare in tourism.

The travel giant announced plans to launch a new Wildlife Tourism Education Portal to improve awareness and educate travellers about animal welfare, and has decided to remove from its website any deemed to be harmful.

The travel giant is also conducting a full review, lasting several months, in cooperation with wildlife and animal protection groups including the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the Born Free Foundation.

We were interested to know if TravelMole readers had similar concerns, so in our latest Mole Poll we asked you if you agreed with Expedia’s move to halt promotion of some animal attractions.

We expected the large majority of you to agree with the move, but in fact, only two thirds of you said ‘yes’.
