Trains cancelled ahead of Bank Holiday national strike
Train companies have begun cancelling thousands of services ahead of a national rail strike starting on Bank Holiday Monday.
Heathrow Express has already warned its services will run shorter days on Monday and Tuesday next week.
Trains will run every 15 minutes from 05:10 on Monday and from 07.30 am on Tuesday and the last trains will leave at 18:30 on both days.
The Heathrow Connect service between Paddington and Heathrow is not expected to run at all on either day.
Network Rail workers are planning to walk out for 24 hours from 17:00 on Monday.
Keith Harding, operations director for Heathrow Express, said: "Our advice to customers using the Heathrow Express on Monday and Tuesday is to check before you travel. Virgin Trains has cancelled all of its West Coast main line services between London and Scotland on Monday and Tuesday. Services on its East Coast line are also affected.
First Great Western, Chiltern, Abellio Greater Anglia, c2c and Southeastern also announced cancellations yesterday, with other companies expected to follow.
Coach operator National Express has added an extra 18,000 seats to cope with the anticipated extra demand next Monday and Tuesday. It said bookings are already up by 160% on some routes, the most popular being London to Stansted, Bristol to London and Bournemouth to London.
