Transit hotel for expanded Bali airport
Bali has begun construction of a transit hotel at the redeveloped Ngurah Rai International Airport.
A spokesman for the airport expansion project told the Jakarta Post that an international-standard transit hotel was a basic requirement for a world-class airport.
The current airport expansion project, costing around US$281.5 million, is one of the central government’s major infrastructure projects.
The transit hotel will be built above the airport’s international terminal.
No details have been released about the choice of the hotel’s operator.
"The hotel is still under construction and will be completed before October," the spokesman added.
The expanded airport is expected to accommodate 20 million passengers per year, up from the current capacity, already exceeded by three million, of eight million passengers a year.
