Travel agent finds deadly scorpion in suitcase
A travel agent found a deadly scorpion in a suitcase a month after the family had returned from a holiday in Spain.
Hollie Jayes, 18, of Skegness, Lincolnshire, was borrowing the case from her mum when she found the Deathstalker scorpion crawling inside, reports the Daily Mail.
The case had been emptied by her mum Theresa Jayes without spotting the four-inch creature inside.
The yellow scorpion – which is more commonly found in Egypt – had crept inside the luggage while Mrs Jayes was on holiday in the tiny village of Santa Peta in Andalucia.
A sting can cause anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening reaction, and the venom is very resistant to drugs. The anti-venom is mainly available in Arabic countries where the scorpion is usually found.
Theresa said: "It’s quite scary to think back – I put my hand in that case 20 or 30 times while unpacking, I must have been so close to it."
