Travel ban temporarily blocked again

Sunday, 16 Mar, 2017 0
It is back to the courts for the Trump Administration after the revised travel ban was again blocked just hours before it was due to kick in.

US District Judge Derrick Watson cited ‘questionable evidence’ that the ban was a matter of national security, as argued by the US Government.

He said the court had established a strong likelihood that the ban, if implemented, would cause ‘irreparable injury’ by violating First Amendment protections against religious discrimination.

Obama appointed Judge Watson said the Executive Order was issued with a purpose to ‘disfavor a particular religion.’

President Trump said the ruling was an ‘unprecedented judicial overreach’ and called it a ‘terrible’ decision.

Trump said at a rally he will take it ‘as far as it needs to go,’ to get it passed, including to the US Supreme Court if necessary.

The recent order, revised from Trump’s initial order in January, wanted to place a 90-day ban on people from six mainly Muslim nations and a 120-day ban on refugees.
