Travel companies help Nepal relief effort
P&O Cruises has donated $100,000 towards the Nepal relief effort following the devastating earthquake which has killed more than 6,200 people.
The cruise line, which has Nepalese crew working across its fleet, has also set up a collection page for passengers and employees to contribute to The Disasters Emergency Committee Nepal Earthquake Crisis appeal.
If you wish to donate to this page, please click here.
"This is not a short term crisis and we have pledged to continue to help those affected over the coming days, weeks and months, as long as it takes," said P&O.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with our crew members in their time of need."
Meanwhile, global tour operator Collette has donated $50,000 to efforts in response to the recent tragedy.
It has made a $25,000 donation to Plan International towards its disaster relief efforts in Nepa and is also matching donations by employees, travellers and travel partners up to $20,000 by May 14.
An additional $5,000 will also be donated to Tourism Cares to help rebuild Nepal and for the long-term sustainability of the destination.
"Children are particularly vulnerable in natural disasters, and making sure that their core needs – shelter, water, healthcare, and essential protection mechanisms – are met will be among our immediate priorities," said Plan International Nepal’s country director Mattias Bryneson.
If you’d like to donate and participate in the matching campaign, please visit www.collettefoundation.org and specify ‘Nepal Relief’ in the description.
