Cortina named ‘best ski resort’ in Italy
High altitude Val Thorens in France has been named as the best ski resort in the world.
Cortina was judged the best ski resort in Italy, LAAX took the award for Switzerland and Kitzbuhel was considered the best Austria has to offer.
The World Ski Awards, which are voted for by ski professionals including tour operators and travel agents, took place in Kitzbuhel last weekend.
Over the pond, Lake Louise was named the best Canadian resort while Deer Valley was considered the best in the US.

In other ski news, InterContinental Hotels Group is set to open a new property in the Swiss resort of Davos in December. Poositioned at the foot of the Flüela Pass, the contemporary hotel is set above the shores of Lake Davos, offering views of the Grison Alps.

The second London International Ski Travel Exchange (LISTEX) attracted a 60% increase in visitors this year.
All the major ski operators including Crystal, Inghams and Neilson as well as the likes of Scott Dunn, Ski Solutions and Zenith Holidays sent representatives to the event, held at the London Rowing Club in Putney. On the supplier side attending were Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens, Madonna di Campiglio, South Tyrol, Jackson Hole and Fernie.

Peak Retreats has launched seven-night gourmet ski holidays in the French resort of Samoens in the Grand Massif. Apres-ski includes wine and cheese tasting, a torch-lit walk to a mountain restaurant for dinner and a session with a French patissiere learning to make desserts. The packages, available in January and March, include half-board accommodation and a Eurotunnel crossing.
