Travel salaries rise for first time in months

Wednesday, 13 Aug, 2013 0

Travel salaries increased slightly last month, according to the latest Travel Salary Index, but they’re down year on year.

The average salary for someone working in the travel sector is now £24,561.

Salaries for July were 1.30% lower than in the same month last year, according to the latest survey by C&M Recruitment Consultancy, and the three-month average – which is a more reliable indicator of recent trends – was down 3.40% to £24,731.

However, the increase of 0.41% last month over June was a welcome rise given that it followed two months of falling salaries.

Sales director at C&M Recruitment Barbara Kolosinska said: "July’s figure is also higher than the average pay for 2012, which is yet another indication that employers in the travel industry are becoming more confident and competitive with salaries in order to secure the best candidates for their company."

Last month saw the biggest increase in job seekers since January, said C&M, and the number of new vacancies registered with the consultancy remained ahead of the average figure in 2012.

"As expected, the end of this summer’s great weather meant that people began to refocus on their career and so we saw a large rise in new candidates registering with us," added Kolosinska. "This, combined with the healthy number of new vacancies that we advertised in the month, suggests that late summer and the early autumn will be a busy period for travel recruitment."
