UK: Few drastic movements on a quiet but positive session in the City
London’s equity markets had a very quiet session yesterday as dealers were slow to return to the action after the Easter break, but the main indices still managed to push ahead.
The FTSE 100 index gained 0.7 per cent in value, putting on 28.5 points to close at 3917.7, while the broader-based FTSE 250 put on 22.2 points to end the day at 4282.7 – a gain of 0.5 per cent. The session saw one of the lightest trading volumes in recent weeks; just 1.8 billion shares were traded by the 6pm count.
In the travel sector things were also fairly quiet; British Airways edged down 0.25p to 120p, while EasyJet managed to gain 3.5p to end the day at 212.5p. Ryanair lost 4.5p for a 464.5p closing price. First Choice moved up 1.5p to 89p – still roughly mid-way between its low- and high-points for the year, while MyTravel had a less positive session, losing 0.625p to end the session at 11.5p.
