There were few major movements from travel industry shares yesterday as London’s equity markets enjoyed modest gains. The FTSE 100 index gained 0.9 per cent in value, adding 38.1 points to close at 4299.0, while the FTSE 250 index added 0.4 per cent to close at 5667.5 – a gain of 21.6 points. Dealers were busy and traded 3.1 billion shares on the day.

Among the airlines, British Airways added a quarter of a penny to end the day at 181.5p, easyJet lost 1.25p for a 230.25p finish, and Ryanair put on 2.5p to close at 454.5p.

Online retailers managed small gains; ebookers added 2.5p to close at 591p while its rival lastminute.com put on 2.5p to end the day at 258p. First Choice Holidays closed 4.5p to the good at 124.5p and MyTravel had another positive session, putting on 1.75p to close at 22.5p.
