Travellers face half term flight disruption at Heathrow
Travellers could face more flight disruption at Heathrow during half term holidays.
Around 170 baggage staff are set to start a series of stoppages during October.
The airport strikes are over 13 days starting on 6 October.
The Unite members service and repair baggage carousels at the airport.
While their job does not directly impact flight operations, it could still lead to disruption.
The dispute is over pay.
If airport strikes go ahead it would impact the half-term holiday period.
Unite claims it would ‘bring all terminals and airline baggage handling to a standstill.’
“Workers at Heathrow Airport employed by Vanderlande do a safety and security critical role that passengers depend on,” said Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham.
It leads on from a summer of disruption, despite numerous threatened airport strikes settled at the last minute.
Most recently, an IT meltdown at National Air Traffic Service caused thousands of flight cancellations and delays.
The airport strikes are planned from 6 October until 9 October and again from 20-30 October.
